QR Codes Beginning to Hit the Advertising Mainstream?
Thursday, April 16th, 2009 by Julia HydeSince the launch of QreateBUZZ we’ve been seeing more and more advertisers using QR Codes as part of their marketing. Of course, it could just be that we’re paying more attention but somehow I don’t think so.
Consider the following from the last couple of weeks
The Happening
A QR Code-to -movie trailer promotion for the movie, The Happening, a paranoid paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity. Created by Warbasse Design for 20th Century Fox.
QR Code Technology in the Arts
The Mattress Factory Contemporary Arts Museum uses QR Codes on print advertising and exhibit title cards that link to more information, You Tube videos and more.
Reward Cards and Discount Coupons
Online store uses QR Codes on reward discount coupons so customers can download to their mobile phones - saves paper too! (we had something to do with this one too)
Touch-screen Digital Signage
OK, these are ours but still pretty cool even if we say so ourselves. All the digital signage demos have integrated QR Codes so customers and brands can connect via mobile phone.
Of course, Coca Cola have used QR Codes on coke bottles in the U.K., Volvo used them in print ads, in Europe and Ralph Lauren Polo used them (although a little haphazardly). Any more? I know there is. Let me know if you’ve heard of any.

They have been used in Australia. Predominantly in Telstra’s “Who am I campaign?” I think they may also have been used to promote the latest Bond film. They are also slowly seeping into magazines and the newspapers here. I really hope that Australia can adopt the technology so that the real life potential of this type of object hyperlinking can be enjoyed.
