Clever Merchants Use Mobile Marketing and QR Codes to Communicate with Shoppers

Validating (to us anyway) our obsession with mobile marketing and, in particular, QR Codes, an article in today’s Insider Retailing suggests the world is taking a step closer to mobile communication and clever merchants are beginning to use it to attract and communicate directly with consumers while they shop.

Walk into any Shopping Mall, anywhere in the world, and you’ll see why - kids and teens are texting each other about items they want to buy; mothers, daughters, sons and husbands are taking and sending photos to each other for approval of a product; coupons and special offers are being scanned and downloaded…the list goes on and on.

Kraft Foods iFood Assistant

It’s taken quite a while for the packaged food industry to catch on to the power of interactive marketing but Kraft Foods has taken a step in the right direction. The company, responding to the reduction in consumer spending on packaged food, has launched the iFood Assistant, an Apple iphone application that lets customers search for, and download recipes, manage their shopping lists and locate local stores.

Now, if Kraft took that one step further and engaged consumers with in-store digital signage customers could download coupons and recipes to any mobile phone, they might be on to something!…
